Only males are allowed to ascend to chiefdom in a Maori tribe in New Zealand. This ancient custom is upset when the child selected to be the next chief dies at birth. However his twin sister, Pai (Keisha Castle-Hughes), survives. At age 12, she enlists the help of her grandmother (Vicky Haughton) and the training of her uncle (Grant Roa) to claim her birthright. But to break with convention, she’ll have to do the impossible: win over her ultra-traditional grandfather (Rawiri Paratene).

A fateful phone call sends construction manager Ivan Locke (Tom Hardy) driving through the night to another city, leaving his wife and two sons bewildered at home and his boss displeased at his abandonment of a project. It’s the night before the biggest concrete pour in the country, and Locke is in charge … until he has to inform his boss of his detour, which will make him miss being on-site. Even worse, the call requires Locke to confess to his wife about an indiscretion. Will Locke lose it all?

The Book Thief is a drama based on the novel by Marcus Zusak. It tells the story of a young girl and her foster parents, who decide to shelter a Jewish friend during the period of Nazi control of Germany, young Liesel (Sophie Nélisse) finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. In the basement of her home, a Jewish refugee is being protected by her adoptive parents.
